Tongue and Lip Ties
During this procedure, the dentist clips or releases the tight band of tissue (lingual frenulum),which restricts the movement of the tongue by means of a laser. The procedure is usually very quick and done in the dentist’s chair without the need of general anaesthesia in infants (5 months and younger). Older children , however, are treated under gas sedation in theatre. After the procedure, some infants may benefit from exercises to help improve tongue mobility and function which aids in latching and speech when they are older. It’s important for parents to follow up with the dentist for the post op instructions.
Sedation and General Anaesthesia
Sedation at the dentist office can enhance the patient experience by reducing anxiety, minimizing discomfort and ensuring successful completion of necessary dental treatments. It is administered under the supervision of a trained anaesthetist to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the patient. Alternatively, children may be seen and treated under general anaesthesia or gas sedation in a hospital environment.
The patients who usually require sedation or general anaesthesia have severe dental anxiety, complex procedures, sensitive gag reflex, special needs patients and invasive surgery.

It is an essential part of dentistry aimed at saving teeth that might otherwise need extraction.
Extractions

In certain a cases, a surgical extraction will be indicated by the dentist. Surgical extractions are indicated for impacted wisdom teeth, severely damaged teeth or teeth that haven’t erupted properly. While the procedure may involve more complexity and recovery time compared to a simple extraction, it is essential for preserving oral health and preventing further complications. Clear aligners
Sunset dental makes use of clear aligners (KRSTL) which are orthodontic devices used to straighten teeth and correct bite issues without the need of traditional braces. They are made from transparent plastic material and are custom-made to fit snugly over the patient’s teeth. The system works by applying forces on the patients teeth to allow for a gradual movement in the desired position. A series of aligners is made beforehand and customized to the patient’s mouth and must be worn till the final result. The clear aligner tray series is worn progressively as one set of trays is completed, then the next set of trays is ready to be worn. Each patient case is different, therefore treatment length and cost varies.
